How to use the checklist

Start during programming or schematic design, assign each open item to a named project party, and repeat the review at every issue milestone. A checked item means the requirement is documented and coordinated—not merely discussed. Why it does not prescribe one room size

Room quantity and dimensions depend on the room function, served area, cable-distance limits, equipment, wall fields, rack and cabinet count, clearances, pathway entries, power, cooling, security, owner criteria, applicable standards, and growth. Public owners publish different minimums for their own facilities. This checklist makes the project team confirm the governing inputs instead of applying one owner’s table to every building.

What the checklist can and cannot prove

The checklist is a coordination aid, not a compliance certificate, design, code review, or substitute for project-specific RCDD, PE, architect, AHJ, owner, manufacturer, or contractor responsibility. Use the editions and criteria named in the contract. Resolve every “not applicable” decision in the project record rather than checking it off silently.

At minimum: room role and serving area, location, usable geometry, doors and access, racks and wall fields, pathways, cabling and administration, electrical inputs, cooling, bonding and grounding, security, fire/life-safety interfaces, drawing/specification coordination, construction review, testing, and closeout. Each item also needs a responsible party and project-specific acceptance basis.
