TIA-606 LABELING SCHEME — STARTER CONVENTION

A Class 2 (single building, multiple telecom rooms) starter.
Adapt the format, then APPLY IT EVERYWHERE — the scheme only
works if the label, the record, and the drawing all agree.

1. SPACES
   Format:   <floor>-<space type><sequence>
   ER-0.01      Equipment room, floor 0 (ground), first
   TR-2.01      Telecom room, floor 2, first
   EF-0.01      Entrance facility

2. RACKS / CABINETS
   Format:   <space> R<sequence>      (left-to-right facing front)
   TR-2.01 R1, TR-2.01 R2

3. PATCH PANELS
   Format:   <rack> PP<sequence>      (top-down)
   TR-2.01 R1 PP1
   Short form on the panel label itself: R1-PP1

4. HORIZONTAL LINKS (the workhorse)
   Format:   <TR shortcode>-<panel letter>-<port>
   2A-001    = TR-2.01, panel A, port 001
   Label BOTH ends + the patch panel port + the faceplate.
   Faceplate adds the work-area: RM 214 / WA-214-A

5. BACKBONE CABLES
   Format:   BB-<media>-<sequence>  with ends in the record
   BB-F-001  = backbone fiber 001 (ER-0.01 FE-1 to TR-2.01 FE-1)
   BB-C-001  = backbone copper 001

6. FIRESTOP LOCATIONS (TIA-606 requires tracking these)
   Format:   FS-<floor>-<sequence>, labeled at the penetration
   FS-2-01   with the system type and install date on the label

RULES THAT KEEP IT ALIVE
- One identifier, three places: label, drawing, record. Always.
- Labels are machine-printed, self-laminating on cable jackets.
- The record of authority is named in the O&M docs (database,
  DCIM, or controlled spreadsheet — pick one and say which).
- Changes update the record the same day or they didn't happen.

No warranty; verify against ANSI/TIA-606 (current edition) and
your project specification, which governs where tighter.
